Valdes Peninsula

This unusual distant geographical area is only one hour from
the city of Puerto Madryn, it's in
the province of Chubut and is also the principal center of diversity.
It has an abundance of marine fauna of Argentina.
Puerto Madryn has a surface area of 3.625 km2 it is united with
the continent by a stretch fringe of land an isthmus denominated
as Carlos Ameghino. Respectively speaking the San José and Nuevo
gulfs are found north and south of the isthmus.
Although the peninsula is not yet declared a national park there
are provincial reserves that exist in Punta Norte, Punta Delgada,
Punta Pirámide, Valdés Cove and the island of Los Pájaros whose
objective is protecting one of the worlds most important populated
marine life. The sea animals have chosen this place to mate and
feed there young. Under the protected species you can find: the
franca austral whale, Orcas,
sea lions, elephant
seals, penguins and a grand
variety of marine fowl.
The peninsula
zone of Valdés and its surroundings is adequate for practicing
nautical activities, especially for scuba diving. It has kilometers
of beaches and transparent waters. Its important banks and steep
rocks offer the tourist an artistic landscape of great beauty.
