Puerto Madryn and Valdes Peninsula in Winter

Puerto Madryn and Valdes Peninsula in Winter

Season:  Available from July 1st to September 9th
Duration:  3 days / 2 nights
Price: from US$ 231

Inside the Atlantic Patagonia, the city of Puerto Madryn stands out for the transparency of its waters in the Nuevo Golf, which permits water sports both on and under the water, transforming this place into the Argentinean capital of underwater activities and the starting point to tour and see the marine life in the Valdés Peninsula. It was declared a Natural World Heritage Site principally for being a reproductive area for the southern whales, which can be seen from June to December every year. The Zone, with its irregular coasts, infinite gulfs, bays, estuaries, inlets, and cliffs along a green sea, is the perfect place to find one of the largest varieties of marine life in the world: whales, sea elephants and wolves, penguins and cormorants, among other species of birds. This zone has an exotic and cultural mix with the Mapuches and the customs of the Welsh communities that live at the coast and in the interior mountains.

Dinner and accommodations at the selected hotel.

Day 2. Puerto Madryn

Excursions

Included Excursions

Puerto Madryn.
This port is located 65 kms from Trelew and is a center of tourist attraction. This is a coastal city with a lot of sand and flamencos in the bay. There is an Oceanography and Natural Sciences Museum that is worth seeing. You can also find the Albatros Ship, sunken with the intention of being transformed into a habitat for many marine species, those that can be seen by the divers.

Valdes Peninsula

Valdes Peninsula.
This is one of the most important natural reserves in Argentina. Here live the southern whales, the sea elephants, and the sea lions, thousands of aquatic birds make their nests, such as Pelicans, Cormorants, and Oyster Catchers. A person with good sight can see Guanacos, Ñandúes, and Marás. Along the coast of the Valdés Peninsula, we can find a colony of around 40,000 sea elephants that are the only type that can be seen from land, apart from those in Antarctica. Besides the fact that a large part of the beach is protected, the tourists still have the opportunity to see the natural life from specially constructed hidden observatories.

Puerto Piramide.
This place is located almost 100 kms from Puerto Madryn, and was an important whaling and seal skin business center. In the 19th century there were more than 500 whalers operating in this water. Since the signed international treaty of protections, the whale population has recuperated a little to about 2000 that continue to live and reproduce near the coasts more or less in July, staying there until the middle of December.
